Camelford sits in north Cornwall, England, on the northern fringe of Bodmin Moor close to the headwaters of the River Camel. The town is surrounded by moorland and farmland and lies on the A39, making it a handy base for walkers and visitors to nearby historic and prehistoric sites such as Slaughterbridge and the former RAF airfield at Davidstow.
Traditionally a small market and coaching town with a medieval church, the community now leans on agriculture, local dairy production and tourism after its railway closed in the 1960s. It is also widely known for the 1988 water contamination incident, an event that has shaped much of the town’s recent social and environmental conversation.
