The small community of Lanhydrock sits in mid-Cornwall, a few miles from Bodmin, and is centred on a large wooded estate and country house that overlooks a wooded valley and the upper reaches of the River Fowey. The National Trust property, with its extensive gardens, parkland and intact late‑Victorian service and family rooms, is the parish’s focal point and a major draw for visitors.
Historically the seat of the Robartes family, the house was largely rebuilt after an 1881 fire and now illustrates Victorian domestic life as well as the earlier estate landscape. The surrounding area is largely rural, with farming, woodland and tourism the main local activities, and it serves as a handy base for walks and cycle routes towards Bodmin Moor and neighbouring Cornish villages.
