Map of the UK

Looe is a small coastal town and civil parish on the southern coast of Cornwall, England, straddling the tidal channel of the River Looe and divided into East Looe and West Looe joined by an old bridge. The compact harbour, narrow winding streets and an offshore islet, Looe Island, give it a distinctly maritime character; a working fishing fleet still lands fresh fish alongside boats offering pleasure trips and wildlife cruises.

Historically a medieval port with a reputation for smuggling, the town grew further after the arrival of the railway in the 19th century and now depends heavily on tourism alongside its fishing economy. Locally there’s a strong community feel with seasonal events such as the regatta, a lively arts and café scene, and the familiar tensions between year‑round residents and the influx of holidaymakers and second‑home owners.
