The small coastal and rural parish of Deviock sits on the south-east Cornwall coast between Looe and Plymouth. It includes the villages of Hessenford, Seaton and Downderry plus scattered hamlets, and stretches from farmland down to cliffs and coves on the English Channel. The South West Coast Path runs along much of the shoreline, offering sandy beaches, rocky headlands and popular spots for walking, rock‑pooling and surfing.
Traditionally agricultural and fishing communities, the local economy now leans on tourism and small-scale fishing alongside farming, with a number of residents commuting to nearby towns. Community life is centred on village halls, local pubs and seasonal events, while conserving the coast and rural character is an ongoing concern as visitor pressure and second‑home ownership have increased in recent years.
