The village and civil parish of Luxulyan sits a few miles north of St Austell in rural Cornwall, centred on a small village and the spectacular Luxulyan Valley. The valley is a steep, wooded gorge with dramatic granite outcrops and an exceptional 19th‑century industrial landscape that forms part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage area.
Luxulyan’s identity is shaped by its mining and quarrying past, most visibly in the engineering work of Joseph Treffry - notably the Treffry Viaduct with its aqueducts, leats and old engine houses - while today the local economy mixes agriculture, tourism and commuters. It remains a compact, village community with a historic church, village hall and many footpaths and trails that make it popular with walkers and heritage visitors.
