Perranzabuloe sits on Cornwall’s north coast, taking in the long sandy sweep at Perranporth and a matrix of dunes, farmland and coastal heath. The beach and dunes attract surfers and holidaymakers in summer, the South West Coast Path runs along the cliffs and much of the shoreline falls within Cornwall’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so scenery and wildlife are big draws.
The name derives from the Latin for “Piran in the sand”, reflecting the parish’s link with the early missionary St Piran whose ruined oratory and buried medieval church can still be seen near the coast. Today the local economy mixes tourism, agriculture and small services, and the community retains a strong Cornish identity with local events and St Piran’s traditions still observed.
