Polruan is a small, steep-sided fishing village on the eastern bank of the mouth of the River Fowey in Cornwall, England, sitting opposite Fowey. Its narrow lanes, granite cottages and a compact harbour give it a tucked-away, maritime character, and regular foot and vehicle ferries link it across the estuary to the larger town.
The village has a long seafaring and boatbuilding past and a reputation for smuggling in earlier centuries; today its economy leans heavily on tourism, yachting and a handful of working boatyards. It is popular with walkers on the South West Coast Path and with sailors exploring the estuary, while locals maintain a small, close-knit community with events centred on the harbour and river life.
