The civil parish centred on the small town of St Blaise sits on the western side of the River Fowey estuary in Cornwall, just a short hop from St Austell. The area mixes low coastal countryside with distinctive signs of the china‑clay industry - pits, spoil tips and disused rail lines - and lies close to visitor draws such as the Eden Project and the South West Coast Path.
Historically the parish expanded around mining and the 19th‑century harbour at Par, which handled clay and other minerals; today that industrial legacy sits alongside commuter housing, small local businesses and a growing tourism economy. Community life remains focused on village halls, pubs and local events, while ongoing regeneration balances conservation of the Cornish landscape with new development.
