Trewoon is a small village in the civil parish of St Mewan, just a couple of miles west of St Austell in south Cornwall. It sits within the St Austell china clay district, so the local landscape is marked by historic pits, spoil heaps and former industrial railways that now feed into walking and cycling routes such as the Clay Trails; the world-famous Eden Project and the china clay museum at Wheal Martyn are within easy reach.
Historically Trewoon developed with the 19th- and 20th-century china clay boom and that mining heritage still shapes community identity and local archaeology. Today it is a largely residential village with a close-knit feel: many people commute to nearby towns while others work in tourism, heritage or outdoor recreation connected to the Clay Trails and neighbouring attractions, and village life revolves around local groups and the village hall rather than large commercial centres.
