Wadebridge in Cornwall, England is a pleasant market town straddling the River Camel, its name coming from the long stone bridge that replaced an old ford in the late medieval period. Historically it was a modest trading and shipbuilding centre on the river; the old railway line is now the popular Camel Trail, a flat cycle-and-walking route linking the town with Padstow and Bodmin along the estuary.
These days Wadebridge has a lively community feel, with independent shops, regular markets and a year-round outdoor/sporting scene - it’s a hub for cyclists and walkers and is close to surf beaches such as Polzeath. The nearby Royal Cornwall Showground hosts the annual Royal Cornwall Show, and the local economy mixes tourism, agriculture and small businesses, giving the town a friendly, practical character.
