Padstow is a compact fishing port and popular tourist town on the north coast of Cornwall, England, sitting at the mouth of the River Camel and overlooking the sheltered Camel Estuary. The harbour, ferries to the village of Rock on the opposite bank, nearby sandy beaches and dramatic clifftop walks make it a handy base for sailing and for sections of the South West Coast Path.
Historically a medieval fishing and trading harbour, Padstow still celebrates seafaring traditions and the May Day 'Obby 'Oss festival; its St Petroc's Church and narrow "step lanes" reflect that past. Today the local economy is dominated by tourism, galleries and restaurants - Padstow is well known for seafood and its culinary scene - so the town can be very busy in summer while quieter and more local-feeling out of season.
