Aycliffe West is an electoral ward in County Durham, covering the western side of Newton Aycliffe within the civil parish of Great Aycliffe. It is largely residential, with a mix of post‑war council housing and newer private estates, local shops, schools and pockets of green space that give the area a strong community feel.
The ward sits close to the sizeable Aycliffe Industrial Estate, which provides much of the local employment and helps shape the economy, and it benefits from good road links to the A1(M) and nearby towns such as Darlington, Durham and Bishop Auckland. There is a noticeable local identity tied to Newton Aycliffe’s post‑war development and light‑industrial heritage, with community groups and events playing an important social role.
