Aspatria is a small market town in historic Cumberland, now administered within Cumbria in north‑west England. It sits on the low agricultural plain near the fringe of the Lake District and the marshes of the Solway Firth, giving a mix of pastoral countryside and easy access to coastal and hill walking.
The town grew notably in the 19th century with the coming of the railway and nearby mining, and has a long farming tradition - once home to an influential agricultural college. Today Aspatria retains a market‑town character with sandstone buildings, a notable parish church and an active community life centred on local shows, sports clubs and small industry, with rail and road links to regional centres such as Carlisle.
