Burgh-by-Sands is a small village in historic Cumberland, England, lying on the low‑lying salt marshes of the Solway Firth close to the western end of Hadrian's Wall. Its setting on tidal flats makes it a quiet spot for birdwatching and coastal walks, and the landscape still shows the imprint of coastal change and old defensive lines.
Despite its size the village has an outsized history - it is famed as the place where King Edward I died in 1307 - and retains a modest historic centre with St Michael's Church. Today the local economy is largely agricultural, with a small amount of tourism from walkers and visitors to nearby Carlisle, and it remains a close‑knit rural community.
