Spondon is an urban ward on the eastern edge of Derby, sitting close to the River Derwent and only a few miles from the city centre. It retains a recognisable village core with a conservation area of older stone and brick buildings, while beyond that there are Victorian terraces and 20th‑century housing estates that give the area a mixed residential character.
The area has a notable industrial legacy - a riverside chemical works and later light-industrial estates have shaped local employment - but it also has a strong community feel, with local shops, pubs, schools and the historic parish church of St Werburgh's Church. Good rail links via Spondon railway station and easy road connections make it a popular commuter neighbourhood with an active roster of community groups and events.
