Alfreton in Amber Valley, Derbyshire, England is a traditional market town with a strong industrial past. Situated close to the River Amber and with good road and rail links into Derby and Nottingham, it grew significantly during the 18th and 19th centuries around coal mining and ironworking and still shows that heritage in its townscape.
Today Alfreton combines pockets of post‑industrial regeneration and light industry with a commuter population, local shops and community life centred on civic events and the football club; the surrounding Amber Valley countryside also offers attractive green spaces and walking routes for residents and visitors.
