Ironville in Amber Valley, Derbyshire, England is a small former industrial village set on the edge of the Erewash Valley, close to Ripley and within easy commuting distance of Nottingham and Derby. It grew up in the 19th century around local ironworks, notably the Butterley works, and was laid out with terraces, a church and school to house workers, giving it the feel of an early model village.
Much of that historic streetscape survives and parts of the village are protected as a conservation area, with a local heritage centre and active community groups keeping the industrial past alive. The economy has long since moved away from heavy industry to a mix of local services, light industry and commuting, and the village combines a strong sense of community with its industrial and social history.
