Clowne is a village and civil parish in the district of Bolsover, in Derbyshire, England. It sits on modestly elevated ground on the eastern edge of the county, positioned on routes between Chesterfield and Worksop, and grew from an agricultural settlement into a more substantial village during the 19th century with the arrival of coal mining and rail links. Much of that industrial past has left its mark in the form of disused railway lines and former colliery sites that have been reclaimed as green corridors and open spaces, giving the place a mix of wooded and open countryside nearby.
Today Clowne has a blend of older stone buildings and post‑war housing, with local shops, schools, pubs and sports clubs serving a close‑knit community. There’s a modestly active civic life centred on local events, volunteer groups and outdoor leisure, and the village functions as a commuter base for surrounding towns while retaining a visible historic and rural character.
