Great Longstone is a small limestone village in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales, Derbyshire, in England, sitting on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Characterised by stone-built cottages, narrow lanes and easy access to gritstone and limestone country, it lies beneath the outcrop of Longstone Edge and is a handy base for walkers and climbers as well as anyone wanting the quieter side of the Peaks; the market town of Bakewell is close by for shops and services.
Historically the area was shaped by lead mining and later by limestone quarrying, and those industrial echoes sit alongside farming and a modern local economy that leans on rural tourism. The village retains a strong community feel - with village halls, pubs and seasonal events - and has been involved in local conservation debates about protecting the distinctive dales, wildlife and historic landscape.
