Tansley is a village and civil parish in the Derbyshire Dales district of Derbyshire, England, sitting a couple of miles east of Matlock on the slopes above the River Derwent. Its elevated position gives pleasant views across the Derwent Valley and the surrounding gritstone and limestone landscape; the village expanded in the 18th and 19th centuries with local quarries, mills and mining-related activity that left a mix of traditional stone cottages and Victorian terraces.
Today Tansley has a lively community feel, with a village hall, pubs and local clubs, and many residents who commute to nearby towns and Derby. It’s popular with walkers and gardeners, and local events and open‑garden-type activities reflect both its rural setting and its industrial past.
