Tansley is a village and civil parish in the Derbyshire Dales district of Derbyshire, England, set on the wooded slopes above the Derwent Valley just south of Matlock. Its lanes and stone-built cottages sit on the fringe of the Peak District, giving it a pleasantly rural feel while remaining within easy reach of larger towns.
Historically the settlement grew from farming and small water‑powered industry in the 18th and 19th centuries; today it is largely residential with local shops, a primary school, village hall and pub, and many people commute to nearby centres for work. The village has an active community life and benefits from attractive countryside and footpaths, making it popular with walkers and visitors exploring the surrounding Derwent Valley and hills.
