Chinley, Buxworth and the small hamlet of Brownside sit in the High Peak area of Derbyshire, on the western edge of the Peak District National Park. The landscape is classic Derbyshire gritstone and meadow, with valley roads, streams and easy access to moorland walking; Chinley grew up around the railway and still has a station linking the area to Manchester and Sheffield, while Brownside remains largely residential and rural.
Buxworth is best known for the historic Bugsworth Basin on the Peak Forest Canal - once an industrial freight hub and now restored as a heritage and leisure destination - and the parish bears strong evidence of its canal and railway-era past. Today the local economy mixes commuting and small businesses with tourism, outdoor pursuits and active community groups centred on village halls and pubs, making it a quiet but lively spot for walkers, cyclists and anyone interested in industrial heritage.
