Hayfield sits in the eastern foothills of the Peak District, in the borough of High Peak, Derbyshire, England. The village lies in the valley of the River Sett beneath the gritstone plateau of Kinder Scout, making it a popular base for walkers and cyclists; routes such as the Sett Valley Trail (on a former railway) and the famous ascent towards Kinder Scout offer immediate access to moorland and wide views.
Historically a small agricultural and 19th-century mill community, Hayfield retains stone cottages, pubs and independent shops but now leans on tourism and commuter links to nearby towns such as New Mills and even Manchester. The village has a strong outdoor and community culture and is closely associated with the countryside access movement around Kinder Scout, which remains important to its local identity.
