Eckington is a traditional parish in North East Derbyshire, Derbyshire, England, sitting on the A61 between Chesterfield and Sheffield close to the South Yorkshire border. It occupies a fringe landscape of rolling Derbyshire countryside, with a scattering of villages such as Renishaw and Ridgeway, and offers easy commuter links while still feeling distinctly semi-rural.
Historically the area grew around coal mining, nail- and wire-making and later light engineering, and traces of that industrial past remain alongside more genteel landmarks such as Renishaw Hall and its gardens, home to the Sitwell family. Today the parish has a mixed local economy and an engaged community with active heritage groups, village clubs and footpaths that celebrate both its industrial archaeology and rural setting.
