Eckington is a small town in the district of North East Derbyshire, in Derbyshire, England, lying on the A61 between Sheffield and Chesterfield. It sits on the eastern fringe of the hills that lead up towards the Peak District and the Pennines, giving easy access to countryside while remaining within commuting distance of larger urban centres.
Historically the town grew around coal mining, ironworking and metal trades, and you can still see that industrial heritage in local buildings and community identity; its medieval parish church is a local landmark. Today Eckington has a mixed economy of light industry, shops and commuter households, with active sports clubs, parish events and a generally close‑knit community proud of its local history.
