Eckington North is the northern section of the town of Eckington in the district of North East Derbyshire, in Derbyshire, England. It sits on the fringe of the South Yorkshire border, within easy commuting distance of Sheffield to the north and Chesterfield to the south, and is characterised by a mix of suburban housing, pockets of older stone terraces and nearby stretches of rolling Derbyshire countryside that lead towards the Peak District.
The area has historic roots in coal mining and related industries and today combines local shops, community facilities and social clubs with many residents commuting to larger urban centres for work. There’s a strong local community feel, with parish and volunteer groups active in maintaining green spaces and organising events, and the built environment still shows Victorian and early 20th-century influences alongside more modern developments.
