Combe Martin sits on the rugged North Devon coast in the county of Devon, England, occupying the mouth of a steep wooded valley and famously stretching along the shoreline - it often claims to be the longest village in England. The settlement is backed by dramatic cliffs such as Great Hangman and lies on the South West Coast Path, giving walkers access to pebble beaches, fossil-rich coves and a little harbour tucked into the valley.
Historically the area saw mining and coastal smuggling, and today the local economy depends largely on tourism alongside farming and small local businesses; attractions include a small wildlife and dinosaur park and a handful of traditional pubs, cafes and holiday parks. The village retains a strong community feel with historic buildings, seasonal events and an outlook very much shaped by its dramatic maritime scenery.
