Sprotbrough is a largely residential ward on the western fringe of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, noted for its riverside setting beside the River Don and the dramatic limestone escarpment of Sprotbrough Gorge. The gorge and surrounding ancient woodland are popular with walkers and birdwatchers, giving the area a semi-rural feel while still offering good commuter links into Doncaster and beyond.
With medieval roots and several conservation areas and listed buildings, the ward retains a strong village character: traditional pubs, independent shops and active community groups are still prominent. Economically it is largely suburban and relatively affluent, with good schools and a social life focused on outdoor recreation and village events rather than heavy industry.
