Barnburgh is a small village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, set in the rolling agricultural landscape of the Dearne Valley. It sits a short drive from the larger towns of Doncaster and Rotherham, giving it a semi-rural feel with hedged fields, lanes and the remnants of a once-heavier industrial landscape nearby.
The village has a long history centred on farming and, later, coal mining, and that industrial past shaped much of its 19th- and 20th-century community life; many local collieries have now closed and parts of the landscape have been reclaimed for countryside and wildlife. A focal point is the ancient parish church of St Peter's, with historic features and local stories, while today Barnburgh retains a traditional village character with active community groups, a village hall and pubs, and functions largely as a residential and commuter settlement for the surrounding towns.
