Arne is a small village and civil parish on the north‑western shore of Poole Harbour in the Purbeck district of Dorset, England. The parish stretches over a mix of low heathland, woodland, salt marsh and mudflats, with sweeping views across the harbour to Brownsea Island and strong coastal influences on its landscape.
Historically a quiet farming and fishing community, the area is now well known for conservation and wildlife tourism thanks to the RSPB reserve on the peninsula; its heaths and estuaries support species such as avocets, marsh harriers and specialist heathland birds. Local life remains small‑scale and community‑focused, with the economy leaning on nature tourism, walking and birdwatching rather than heavy industry, which gives it a distinctly peaceful, rural character.
