Holton Heath is a small industrial and residential area on the edge of the Isle of Dorset's Purbeck district, lying close to Wareham and the reedbeds of Poole Harbour. Its landscape is a mix of low heathland and post‑industrial sites; during the 20th century it was best known for the Royal Naval Cordite Factory built there for munitions manufacture, and many of the former military buildings and the later Holton Heath Trading Estate still define the local economy and employment.
Despite the industrial history, the locality sits close to important wildlife areas and reserves around Poole Harbour and the RSPB site at Arne, so heathland birds and coastal habitats are never far away. It has a small community feel, convenient rail links towards Wareham and Poole for commuters, and a mix of conservation interest and industrial heritage that often draws local historians and nature‑watchers alike.
