Charlton Down is a small village in Dorset, England, set on the chalk ridges of the Dorset Downs a few miles north of Dorchester. It feels like a modern rural settlement tucked into classic downland scenery: rolling arable fields, hedgerows and wide views, with easy access for walkers and cyclists and within reasonable driving distance of the Jurassic Coast.
The community is largely residential and agricultural in character, with many residents commuting to nearby market towns for work. Locally there’s a strong community feel with village groups and facilities that reflect the village’s relatively recent growth, and the surrounding landscape and nearby historic sites give it a quietly rural, reasonably well connected base for exploring west Dorset.
