Chetnole is a small village and civil parish in west Dorset, tucked into rolling, largely agricultural countryside close to the Dorset–Somerset border. The hamlet sits in the valley of the River Wriggle and, unusually for a settlement of its size, has a modest railway halt on the Heart of Wessex Line, which gives residents easy access to nearby towns and makes it a quiet base for walkers exploring the surrounding lanes and hedgerows.
The village retains a distinctly rural, historic character with a parish church of medieval origin and a handful of listed buildings, and its local economy remains centred on farming alongside a small number of holiday lets and rural enterprises. Community life is typical of Dorset villages - quiet and neighbourly, with interest in conservation, local history and wildlife, and practical connections to market towns such as Sherborne and Yeovil.
