Cranborne is a compact historic village in eastern Dorset, England, set on the chalk downland of Cranborne Chase and long recognised for its rolling agricultural landscape and wildlife-rich hedgerows. You can still see the earthworks of a Norman motte-and-bailey and a largely medieval parish church, while the attractive manor house and estate reflect the village’s role as the centre of the local Cranborne Estate.
Today the local economy remains rooted in farming and estate management, with a modest but active community life centred on the village green, church and village hall; visitors are drawn by walking, birdwatching and the peace of the AONB. Despite its quiet size, Cranborne carries a strong sense of local history and conservation that shapes both everyday life and seasonal events.
