The civil parish of Totton and Eling sits on the western edge of the New Forest in Hampshire, just west of Southampton. It occupies a waterside position by the estuary of the River Test and Southampton Water, combining suburban neighbourhoods with pockets of heathland, salt marsh and riverside quays.
Eling is best known for the working Eling Tide Mill, one of the oldest tide mills in the country, and the area’s growth was shaped by 19th- and 20th-century industry and improved transport links. Today the parish functions partly as a commuter and retail hub for the Waterside, with active community facilities, nearby nature reserves such as Testwood Lakes, and easy access to the recreational attractions of the New Forest.
