Totton is a sizeable town and civil parish on the western edge of the New Forest district in Hampshire, England, lying just west of Southampton. Originally a small riverside settlement, it expanded in the 19th and 20th centuries with the arrival of the railway and local mills on the River Test, and today combines suburban neighbourhoods, light industry and busy retail areas.
Totton shares a close identity with nearby Eling, home to the historic Eling Tide Mill, and benefits from immediate access to the woodlands, heaths and coastal walks of the New Forest, which makes it popular with commuters and outdoor enthusiasts. The town has a mixed social character - family-focused suburbs, community clubs and local amenities sit alongside visible reminders of its industrial past, giving it a practical, down-to-earth feel between city and countryside.
