Cranborne Chase is a largely rural ward in north Dorset centred on the historic village of Cranborne and lying against the sweeping chalk downland and ancient beechwoods of the wider Cranborne Chase AONB. The landscape is marked by prehistoric barrows, medieval deer parks and big country estates such as Cranborne Manor, which give the area a strong sense of continuity and attract walkers, birdwatchers and those interested in historic landscapes.
Locally the economy is dominated by farming, estate management, small-scale forestry and a modest visitor economy, with many residents also commuting to nearby market towns such as Blandford Forum or to Salisbury. Social life tends to revolve around village halls, parish churches and community clubs, and there is a noticeable emphasis on conservation and heritage among residents who value the ward’s quiet, close‑knit character.
