Upton in Dorset is a small town on the northern edge of Poole, set close to the fringes of Poole Harbour and within easy reach of the south coast and the Bournemouth and Christchurch conurbation. The area is noted for its stretches of heathland and woodland, most notably Upton Heath, and for Upton Country Park with its attractive gardens and parkland, which provide valuable wildlife habitat and informal recreation for locals and visitors alike.
Historically a village that has become more suburban over the 20th century, Upton today is largely residential with local shops, schools and community groups; many residents commute to nearby towns for work. The mix of green space, easy coastal access and local community activity gives it a quieter, semi-rural feel despite its proximity to larger urban centres.
