Maiden Newton is a village and civil parish in west Dorset, England, sited in the attractive valley of the River Frome and close to the county town of Dorchester. It has a compact core of traditional stone houses, a parish church and a railway station on the Heart of Wessex Line linking Weymouth and Yeovil, which contributed to its 19th-century growth and kept it well connected despite its rural setting.
The local economy remains largely rural and agricultural, though many residents commute to nearby towns; the area is popular with walkers and anglers thanks to the river meadows and nearby chalk downland. Community life centres on a village hall, school and pubs, and the parish retains a strong historic character with buildings and lanes that reflect centuries of local life.
