Stour & Allen Vale is a largely rural ward in Dorset, its name reflecting the low-lying river valleys of the Stour and the Allen that thread the landscape. The area is typical of northern and central Dorset with rolling vales, mixed arable and pasture farms, hedgerows and small wooded cloughs, and an attractive network of footpaths that make it popular for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts.
Locally the ward’s identity is shaped by a scattering of villages and hamlets, historic parish churches and traditional thatched or stone cottages, with an economy centred on agriculture and small local trades plus some commuting into nearby market towns; conservation of river habitats and countryside character is a recurring theme for residents and Dorset Council.
