The ward covers the seaside town of Swanage on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, England, sitting on the sheltered curve of Swanage Bay on the English Channel. It forms part of the rugged Jurassic Coast World Heritage stretch, with cliffs and headlands such as Durlston Head and the popular Durlston Country Park close by.
Historically a Victorian resort built on local Purbeck stone, the area retains a working harbour, pier and a strong tourism focus, supported by hospitality, holiday homes and seasonal employment. Cultural life is lively for a small place, helped by the heritage Swanage Railway steam link to Norden and Corfe Castle, regular events and an active community, alongside an older demographic typical of many coastal towns.
