The village and civil parish of Wool sits in rural Dorset in south‑west England, roughly between Dorchester and Wareham. It lies close to the western end of the Jurassic Coast and the southern foothills of the Isle of Purbeck, with a convenient railway station on the line to Weymouth that makes it a small commuter and visitor hub.
Historically the settlement expanded with the coming of the railway and the local clay and quarrying trades, and you’ll find a mix of Victorian terraces, older stone buildings and light industrial premises. The area benefits from nearby attractions such as the ape rescue centre Monkey World and the historic Woolbridge Manor, which has literary connections to Thomas Hardy; today tourism, agriculture and commuter living largely shape the local economy and community life.
