The Crumbles is a stretch of shingle beach and low-lying coastal land on the eastern edge of Eastbourne in East Sussex, England. It sits just west of Sovereign Harbour and borders the marshy Pevensey Levels, so the area feels a little wilder than the central promenade and is popular with walkers, birdwatchers and those using nearby seaside leisure facilities.
Locally the name also covers a mix of uses - recreational shoreline and golf links alongside light industrial and commercial estates - and the changing shingle bank and coastal management are important to residents and businesses. The Crumbles has a sharp local identity too, partly because of its association with notorious early 20th‑century crimes that drew national attention, which sits alongside its quieter role as a working edge of the town between sea and marsh.
