Pevensey Bay is a low-lying coastal village in the district of Wealden, East Sussex, England, lying along a long shingle beach beside the English Channel. The shoreline gives way inland to the wet grasslands of the Pevensey Levels, an important area for grazing and wildlife that is also designated for its ecology; the bay itself is known for caravan parks, seasonal holidaylets and an active community of beach walkers, anglers and birdwatchers.
The bay has notable historic interest: William the Conqueror landed here in 1066 and the ruins of Pevensey Castle, built into an earlier Roman fort, still dominate the area and draw visitors. Today the place blends a quiet, largely residential feel with a tourism-led economy and recreational uses of the coast and marshes, creating a mix of long-term residents, retirees and seasonal visitors.
