Groombridge sits on the county boundary between Wealden in East Sussex and Kent, in the rolling landscape of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England. The village straddles the little valley of the River Grom, giving it a distinctly rural feel while being within easy reach of larger towns such as Tunbridge Wells.
Groombridge is best known for the moated manor and historic gardens at Groombridge Place, and for its heritage rail link via the Spa Valley Railway, both of which support a modest local tourist economy alongside commuter residents. Historically part of the Wealden iron and agricultural landscape, today it retains a small-community atmosphere with local shops, events around the gardens and railway, and a mix of long-standing village life and people drawn to the countryside within commuting distance of London.
