Penshurst is a small rural village and civil parish in the district of Sevenoaks, Kent, England, set in the rolling, wooded landscape of the High Weald. The settlement is best known for Penshurst Place, a historic manor house and gardens dating back to the 14th century and long associated with the Sidney family and the poet Sir Philip Sidney; the house, Tudor great hall, formal gardens and deer park draw visitors and have been used as a filming location.
Village life remains quietly agricultural and community‑centred, with traditional orchards, hopbeds and pasture surrounding the core, a parish church of St John the Baptist containing Sidney memorials, a village pub and local events such as fêtes and cricket matches. Tourism linked to the house and gardens, plus occasional events and weddings, provide an important economic boost alongside farming and small local enterprises.
