Heathfield is a small market town in the district of Wealden, in East Sussex, England, lying on the edge of the rolling, wooded landscape of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The town sits amid the classic patchwork of hedged fields and ancient woodlands that characterise the High Weald and retains a compact centre of timber‑framed buildings and a mix of independent shops and services.
Historically the settlement grew as an agricultural and local‑market hub with links to the wider Weald economy; remnants of that past remain in the form of village farms and nineteenth‑century buildings. Today Heathfield combines a rural economy and small light‑industry with a significant number of residents who commute to larger towns, and it maintains an active community life with local clubs, events and an annual agricultural show that underlines its countryside roots.
