Wickford is a small market town in the borough of Basildon in Essex, England. It sits close to the tidal creeks and estuaries of the county - notably the River Crouch - and has a compact town centre with a traditional high street and a railway station that gives regular rail links into London and other parts of Essex.
Originally a medieval market settlement, Wickford expanded through the 19th and 20th centuries as transport improved and is now a mix of suburban housing, independent shops and pockets of green space. Its location near rivers, farmland and neighbouring villages makes it popular with commuters and countryside visitors alike, while local markets and community events keep a strong town-centre social life.
