Terling is a compact village and civil parish in the district of Braintree, a few miles north of Chelmsford in rural Essex, England. The River Ter runs through the area and gives the settlement its name; the landscape around the village is characterised by farmland, hedgerows and a clutch of historic buildings, including the notable Georgian country house Terling Place set in parkland.
Despite its small size, Terling retains a lively village feel with a church, a village hall, a pub and local events that underline a strong community spirit. The local economy is largely agricultural with many residents commuting to nearby towns, and the built environment reflects long-standing rural prosperity and 18th–19th century development, making it of interest to people who enjoy village history and classic Essex countryside.
