Terling is a small, historic village in the Braintree district of Essex, England. Set on the banks of the River Ter, it retains a classic rural character with a village green, pond, thatched and timber-framed cottages and a network of narrow lanes.
The village is notable for Terling Place, an 18th‑century country house long associated with the Strutt family and the Barons Rayleigh, and a parish church with medieval fabric. Today Terling remains largely agricultural and residential with an active village hall, seasonal fêtes and community groups, while many residents commute to nearby Chelmsford or London.
